The End of an Era
Well folks, it pains to me to say it by the Elmwood Sub layout has already hit the end of its lifespan.
My wife lost her job her two months ago, and then the final blow hit yesterday when I lost mine. After talking through various plans of action, we decided to take this “downtime” as an opportunity to back home to New Orleans. We’ll be renting for a while and there’s no telling when we’ll purchase a house again, so pretty much everything will be going into storage for an indefinite amount of time.
Thanks to all my readers out there for following along over the years, and all the comments and feedback I’ve gotten from you guys.
Hopefully we’ll see each other in the future on a new Elmwood Subdivision
-Shaun

Shaun,
Sorry to hear of your tough times. I have been following on nscale.org for the past couple of years enjoying your progress.
Good Luck to you & your wife!
My wife & I were hit hard 1.5 years ago being in the mortgage & real estate industry for 15+ years. Things are going a lot better now.
Hang in there & maybe you will have time to build a 3×4 or 4×8 sooner than you think! Keep the faith. I am working on a 40″x70″ I started 6 months ago. You can do a lot in that size with N scale.

Shaun, I’m so sorry to hear you having such a hard time, I haven’t worked since last thanks giving. Since then I have joined Ntrak and have been able to play on that club and still have fun in these rough times. I am truly going to miss your RR Blogs, I truly enjoyed these and you inspired me and gave me many ideas. I can’t thank you enough for what you have done.
Shaun,
Sorry to hear it all. I’m thankful every day for my job – and I am always saddened to hear that others have lost theirs – especially sine its thorugh no fault of your own.
If I may, consider keeping the present layout available to yourself. Even reanting, what you are now building is more portable, and thus landlord friendly, and it will serve you well to have something to help releive the stresses you face.
And make sure to take care of your wife – she’s probably as devastated by all tis as you are.

P.S. Being from Baton Rouge originally, if I can help in any other way, email me.
Thanks for the comments guys.
We’ll probably move into a leased duplex in the coming weeks after we settled in with family after the move and can do some apartment hunting.
I think what I’ll do just to save my sanity is build a small diorama, like 2′x’1 or something. I’ve been meaning to build one for taking photos of rolling stock and stuff, so this would be a good time to finally get around to it.
Something like this, but in n-scale: http://www.trains.com/mrr/default.aspx?c=a&id=1425
shaun,
If you want to try micorlayouts, might I suggest you do some research here:

Shaun – sorry to hear this news. Here’s hoping that no matter what happens you’ll be better off in the end. Likewise, I do hope you take the time to build a diorama etc.
I’ve enjoyed this blog immensely. Hope to see it surviving despite your new (and unplanned) life direction.
All the best.
Hey Shaun – I will miss this blog! Good luck in your future!!
Shaun,
Know that feeling of having to move cities, having moved earlier this year from Sydney to Canberra (Australia) for a new job. Just bought a house after nine months of renting and it’ll be great getting my layout out of storage and looking at the new opportunities the new house will bring for the layout – old or new?
Good luck with the move and the job hunting.
regards,
Brad
I am truly sorry to hear about the circumstances, I will pray for a quick turnaround of your fortunes in New Orleans. I have really enjoyed your blog over the last year and will miss it.
I am grateful for my job in this depression, so far my risk of losing it seems low, but I did stop spending money on trains this year just in case. I am the only income for my family. Following your railroad was one of my simple pleasures for the fantasy of what I may do in the future.
Again, good luck.
