Track Plan Update

December 2nd, 2009

Here’s what I’ve done so far on the track plan:

The general feel is similiar to the original Salt Lake route in the magazine, but I was pretty much guessing on what radius curves were being used at spots so it’s not exact. But that’s ok to me. I like how it turned out.

Overall, I think it’s a good plan. I have two spots on the industry side to do light switching and a double track main for continuous running for railfanning the layout.

Right now I have a few choices I could use for the main industry on the right side. My top choice though is the Superior Paper mill buildings I already have. I’ll have to draw up all the buildings and see how they fit, though.

Looks like the Superior Paper mill would be a good fit on the two track siding to the right. For the two track back left, I’d go with some sort of small loco servicing/RIP facility. And nothing says modern railroading like TOFC/COFC, wich is what the front four track siding is for. I’d keep that as well.

Come to think of it, if you did it correctly you could add a stub siding to the loop portion of the layout so that trains outbound from the industrial area could get new locos and thus reenter the other side as different trains.

Where are you going to put the crossovers between the two main lines?

Still thinking about the placement. Getting a double crossver made in C55 ME track is pretty expensive, so it’ll probably have to be two seperate crossovers.

One spot could be on the lower side right in the middle, another could be on the straight section on the upper portion of the layout. The lower section is getting a little ‘busy’ as it is with the trackwork and turnouts, so moving it to the other side might be a good idea if I can fit it in.

  1. No trackbacks yet.
